A Balanced Perspective on Remote Work

A Balanced Perspective on Remote Work

Remote work has transformed the way businesses operate, presenting both opportunities and challenges. For our team, our journey with remote work has been a blend of growth, adaptation, and reflection. While we’ve celebrated significant successes with this model, we’ve also learned to acknowledge the blockers and trade-offs of not being physically together as a team. If remote work is becoming a growing question for you and your team, we want to share our experiences. We’ll explore the benefits remote work has brought us and share an honest conversation about what’s missed without in-person collaboration.

Celebrating the Success of Remote Work

Remote work has been a monumental shift for Mintun Media. Not because of the same reason as most businesses have experienced but what it has done to our overhead expense. Let’s be honest, we’re a digital company that has always been able to work remotely. Most of our industry is remote (or overseas).

Outside of the expense cut, one of the most significant advantages has been the flexibility it provides. Team members can work from environments where they feel most productive, whether that’s a home office, a local coffee shop, or a coworking space (still in talks for this one). This freedom has not only enhanced individual work-life balance across the team but our productivity has stayed consistent.

Another key benefit has been access to a wider range of talented people. By removing geographic restrictions, we’ve been able to hire skilled professionals who bring diverse perspectives and expertise to our projects. This has proven to elevate our team and has allowed us to deliver even more innovative solutions for our clients.

Technology has always played a vital role in making our team successful. Tools like ClickUp, Slack, Harvest, Loom, and Zoom are the foundation of our business and made the transition to remote work more seamless. Having streamlined workflows and software that ensures transparency are vital to have in place before remote work is initiated.

What’s Missed Without Being In-Person

Despite our success over this last year, remote work has presented its challenges. One aspect we often miss is the spontaneous interactions that happen in an office. Casual conversations or shared lunch breaks generated a sense of camaraderie and connection that’s harder to replicate virtually. No matter the amount of Sprint Celebrations we schedule for the team.

In-person collaboration also has unique advantages, especially during brainstorming sessions. There’s something about being in the same room, whiteboard in hand, bouncing ideas off one another, and building on each other’s energy that video calls can’t quite match. While we’ve found ways to collaborate effectively online, we acknowledge that the creative spark of face-to-face interaction is irreplaceable.

Maintaining company culture in a remote environment is another challenge. Celebrating wins, onboarding new team members, and building a shared sense of purpose require intentionality. Without the physical cues and shared spaces of an office, it takes extra effort to ensure everyone feels connected and valued.

Finding the Balance

At Mintun Media, we strive to bridge the gap between the benefits of remote work and the value of in-person collaboration. We’ve implemented virtual team-building activities, encouraged regular video calls to maintain face-to-face interaction, and are looking to plan more in-person meetups to strengthen relationships.

We’re sharing our experiences to spark a broader conversation about remote work. What’s your team’s experience been like? Have you found the right balance?

We believe in helping businesses adapt to remote-first or hybrid models through tailored strategies, technology integration, and culture building. Let’s connect and explore how we can help your team thrive in this new era of work.
